Caterpillars

Owners of the Cape Lilac tree, will at present be experiencing being invaded, by hundreds of  caterpillars of the White Cedar  Moth.

Apparently these caterpillars are members of the spitfire family. The trunks of my trees were covered in a carpet of the critters. This made it easy to spray them, but not before they had successfully removed the entire leaves from the tree.

They head to the house covering the patios and walls, this entertains and keeps the kids busy collecting them.

I have used Carbaryl dust around the doors  in an attempt to keep them from getting inside.

At night they seem to head towards the light and warmth.

I have found that products containing  Carbaryl to be the most effective in controlling them.

Good luck to others with this problem.

Interpretive Sign Frames Found

Interpretive sign frames in the shed

Signage frames stored in the caged area of the Shed

I have great news for the users of Magenup Lake. DEC workers found the interpretive sign frames in the bush where they were working. You may recall that vandals had ripped out of the ground some of the interpretive signs that had been placed around the lake. These signs were the product of a joint project between the Wandi Landcare Group and Greenskills and included the two large signs that can be found to the entrance to the lake area by the Magenup Equestrian Centre and at the Leslie Road bridal path. I was told that these frames are quite expensive to build so their return will be at a great saving to the Wandi Landcare Group and Angela Jakob’s bushcare budget.

I haven’t heard about the pending court case. The vandals were caught. Hope the judge doesn’t give them just a slap on the wrist.

CONCERN ON LYON ROAD

A note to the residents of Wandi, to use caution on Lyon Road around the sub-division.

These display homes are now being visited by families (strangers to the area) who may consider Lyon Road a quiet back street.

We all know this is not the case.  These visitors are parking on both sides of the road (ignoring the No Parking signs) and unknowingly putting their children at risk.

Vehicles are only slowing down along this strip when forced to do so due to congestion.

Regardless of what any of us think about the transition to rural that the council and the developer have provided, none of us want to be the one who runs over another, be it adult or child.

Illegal Parking on Lyon Road

There have been several cases of illegal parking of Lyon Road during functions held by Satterleys.

These car owners are poking their tongues out at council because they will not be booked.

The Mayor of Kwinana seemed to brush off the offences suggesting rangers were off duty but that again raises more questions in regards to illegal activities after hours ?? You can read her response in the Wandi Warbler. I myself made several calls to the Duty Ranger (0411 078264) on the offending Sunday 20th November and was put through to a computerised voice telling me I was placed in a queue. What a joke. I should have been put through to a messaging machine. I contacted the Mayors home and got in contact with the Mayor’s husband as Carol was away, but he was unable to help.

If you would like to add your views on this subject, please register and post your comments so they are available for others to see.

I have made photo gallery album showing all the offenders. Click HERE to see some photos of illegal parking on Lyon Road. If you have some of your own to add, please send them to me for inclusion.

The Wandi Progress and Landcare Websites moved to new servers

I’d like to inform everyone that the Wandi Progress and Wandi Landcare websites have moved servers. Due to the great deals out there today, I was able to have separate servers for both so now you can use their respectived URLs and go direct to the web site home page.

These are wandiprogress.org and wandilandcare.org .

The new servers also have other advantages, one being that Ithe WPA is able to accomodate club websites complete with fully functioning email addresses through subdomains if the free page offered is not sufficient.

I can be contacted by E-mail for more information.

Rainwater Tanks for Drinking Water

A Rainwater Tanks for Drinking Water section has been added to the WPA website. The section serves to help new and old residents of Wandi and elsewhere that rely on rain water as their only water supply to their home. There are several pamphlets there that you can download and peruse.

Please feel free to leave comments on your thoughts and ideas.

Low life vandals at it again

What has become of the youth of today :( . On Tuesday, 19th July I was informed that an unfortunate act of vandalism out on the nature trail around Magenup Lake. Some low lifes had pulled two of the interpretive signs out of the ground and dragged them behind their vehicle. I’m not sure where they entered the area but they left via the DEC gate completely destroying it.

I have included some photos of the damage in the new photo gallery of the Wandi Progress Association. You can see them by clicking here

If anyone has any information, can you please contact the Kwinana Police on 9411 4311.
